• BORROWDALE GATES HOTEL INFORMATION

Our Mission

As an upmarket hotel, our aim is to ensure our guests leave us feeling better than on arrival, and wanting to come back.

We are told that it is often the small things that matter. Our staff are approachable, friendly and welcoming. Our rooms are designed with attention to detail, with either patios, balconies or window seats so guests can soak up the panoramic Lakeland views. Our cuisine is designed to delight guests who come here to relax and treat themselves to something special.

Our Features

All the rooms have free Wi-Fi, heated towel rails, chocolates on the pillows, flatscreen TVs, DVD players available, hairdryers, a refreshment tray, and the list goes on.

For our less able-bodied guests, there is an internal lift and we have suites with easy access on the ground floor and modified facilities.

Our restaurant and open-plan lounges are surrounded by picture-length windows which maximise on the perennial beauty that the Borrowdale Valley offers, no matter the weather or time of year.

Why You Should Visit Us

In the light summer evenings, guests can enjoy drinks on the terrace in the private gardens. During the colder months, open log fires are lit in the lounges all day, providing warmth and cosiness for reading, drinks and perhaps a little shameless snooze. When it rains, muddy boots and wet coats can be left in the drying room, heated by an eco-friendly biomass boiler.

When it shines, the Borrowdale Valley has a special magic which prompted Alfred Wainwright MBE* to describe it as “the loveliest square mile in Lakeland”. *Alfred Wainwright (17 January 1907 – 20 January 1991) was the critically- acclaimed British fell-walker, guidebook author and illustrator. His seven-volume Pictorial Guide to the Lakeland Fells was published between 1955 and 1966, which continues to be essential reading for many visitors.

Supporting Local Economy

We support Fair-booking Cumbria, which is an initiative promoted by Cumbria Tourism our local Tourist Board. Fair-booking encourages visitors to book locally rather than with one of the online booking sites to help keep money within the local economy.

Giving You The Best Rates

By making your booking with a Fair-booking business you know that you will always receive the best available rates at the time of booking, and often something a little extra.

Supporting Good Causes Too!

Every Fair-booking business has pledged to donate to a local good cause for each direct booking made. We have chosen Cumbria air ambulance as our Fair-booking charity for this year. So, by booking with us you are not only supporting Cumbrian businesses and their supply chains but helping local good causes too!

Wedding Info – Why Borrowdale Gates?

Choosing the right venue for your wedding can rank alongside those other difficult decisions, such as choosing the rings or even the dress.

For those seeking an intimate private celebration for up to 75 guests, the Borrowdale Gates Hotel is an ideal venue available for booking exclusively for your special day.

Christmas & New Year

Each year, our festive breaks offer warmth, the thoughtful comforts of home, a touch of luxury and exquisite cuisine.  Our talented harpist, Joan Bailey, creates a soothing ambiance in the evenings, and encourages a little festive friend-making before dinner. As befitting our location, we keep the itinerary limited – we find most guests prefer to make their own plans, be they walking, window-shopping, or snuggling in front of our fires with mulled wine and a good oldfashioned Christmas Quiz.

Christmas and New Year breaks are each a minimum of 3 nights. For prices and availability, see our Offers page or enquire directly with the hotel.

Please note a non-refundable initial deposit of £50 per person is taken at the time of booking to secure the reservation.
